P-town is comng to D’ville

Phillip will be moving to Douglasville this Friday. Since September, Phillip has been driving to Douglasville every Saturday afternoon. Phillip does a fantastic job leading our worship. He is extremely talented, and he has a great heart for God. This Summer he is going to begin seminary at the North Georgia Campus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is followimg the call.

If you would like to give Phillip an apartment warming gift, I know he would appreciate it. A 23 year old bachelor does not have a lot of items for an apartment. I don’t think color coordination will be a problem. Just think paper or plastic.

Monday Morning Quarterbacking

Yesterday was nothing short of awesome! God is so good to us. We prayed that the weather would improve so that we could have our baptismal service in the Lake, and God answered our prayer. Over 200 people showed up at John Tanner State Park for our cookout and baptismal service. Thirteen people were baptized. It was a great day.

I want to say a special thanks to the ones who worked so hard preparing the food for our cookout. They stuck it out in spite of some really bad weather. They had everything prepared for us. They are amazing. Thanks so much!

Here are some other highlights from yesterday:

  • We had 160 in attendance.
  • The band was the best it has ever been.
  • Our volunteers were incredible
  • We sold most of our t-shirts.

Sunday Baptism

This Sunday we will have our first ever baptism at Summit. We are going to give anyone an opportunity to get baptized. The water temperature is fine at the lake at John Tanner State Park.

Baptism is an act of obedience. It is a symbolic act of identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism is a public testimony of your faith in Christ. I believe that there are some who have recently received Christ into their life, but they have not yet made that commitment publicly. Sunday will be a great time to do that. Just bring a change of clothes. You can get baptized in a shirt and pair of shorts. Ladies may want to wear a dark colored shirt. It’s gonna be great!

Summit T-shirts

This Sunday we will have Summit T-shirts for sale. The cost is $7.00. Amy Hultquist has designed the shirts for us. They are going to look great. These shirts will be a tremendous advertisement for Summit all over the west metro area. Since starting Summit, I have seen how important advertisement is for our church. We have no building. We are only 8 months old. However, I feel like we something to offer that people need to know about.

We live in an age of advertisement. Just look around. Everybody advertizes. You see ads for dog food, deoderant, shoes, cars, sausage, and the list goes on. As I write this post, I am looking at an ad for a Mangroomer. The ad says, “Do it yourself electric back hair shaver. Fully extendable to reach all areas of your back.” Personally, this ad means nothing to me. I am not in the market for a Mangroomer. However, if Mangroomer feels the need to advertize a product that they feel will make a difference in some guy’s life then shouldn’t we also advertize? What we offer lasts a lot longer than a close back shave.

Summit Life April 17 & 20

On Thursday, we will offer our third Summit Life New Member Class. So far, over seventy people have joined Summit Church by completing this class. We will meet at the Holiday Inn Conference Room in front of Wal-mart from 6:30pm until 8:30pm. The same class will be offered on Sunday at the same location from 11:15am until 1:30pm. You only need to attend one of the classes. We will have a meal catered by Lenny’s Subs.

Everyone interested in finding out more about Summit Church is invited to attend. Attending the class does not automatically make someone a member of Summit. However, it is a requirement for membership.

Beach Body

This Sunday, my message will be Satisfaction with my Body. Nothing makes you more honest about your body than going to the beach. Do you have to have a beach body in order to be satisfied with your body? What happens if somebody kicks sand in your face on the beach?  Well, you get the Charles Atlas Body Building Program from the back of your comic book……just kidding. Actually, you get up and gather your family together and go back to the hotel.

There is a tension between satisfaction with my body and taking care of my body. Some people forget to take care of themselves. They forget that their body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We should be content with how God has made us, and we should take care of ourselves. Hopefully, everyone will be challenged to take better care of themselves and to be content with how God created them.

Stephanie’s Post

“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise.” (Matthew 21:16)

We can learn a lot from children, you know. As I was reading this Scripture verse today, I was thinking of my little 15 month old nephew, Harrison. This past week was his first beach trip, and boy did he love it! The first day there, it was too cold to go out, however, Harrison kept running to the sliding glass door that overlooked the ocean and delightedly kept saying, “Uugh! Uugh!” It was as if he were trying to tell us how badly he wanted to be outside. The next day, he proceeded to be completely covered with sand. You cound see that he was filled with sheer delight at everything around him.

I couldn’t help but think of the line from the praise song, Marvelous Light,  that says, “Lift my hands and spin around, see the light that I have found,” as I watched him spin around with his arms up in the air when we came back to the room. Oh that we would express ourselves like little Harrison at the wonder of God’s creation. Read Psalm 8
