Head butt madness

My eight year old son, Stephen, had to come home early from school yesterday. He collided heads with another boy and got a concussion. It was kind of scary. Stephen vomited when he got home and his doctor said to take him to immediate Med. We did and they said to take him to the emergency room. Before we could leave Immediate Med, he vomited all over the bathroom floor. At the Emergency Room, they took him right in (Amazing!). He was still feeling a little woozy. After about 20 minutes or so he started feeling a lot better.

When the doctor walked into the room, Stephenwas laying on the bed with both hands behind his head relaxing.  The doctor said, “So, what’s going on?” Stephen replied, “We’re sitting here watching Cory in the House.” That was not the answer the doctor was looking for but it made him laugh. I knew at that point Stephen was back to normal.

Sunday Rewind

  • Fantastic day! We had a very good atttendance. Our preschool area was covered with kids. As usual, our volunteers did a wonderful job so parents could worship.
  • Set up and tear down team continues to excel. I want to give a special thanks to James and the expertise he adds to our Sound Team.
  • Good offering!
  • The message was on the topic of lust. I felt like it was very much needed. There is so much that tempts us to stray and to start desiring what we ought not have.
  • Next week the message wil be on DOUBT.

Stepping Up!

Our members are awesome. I am amazed at how many of our members and regular attenders are stepping up and taking on responsibility at Summit. All of a sudden our set up and tear down team has multiplied. We have volunteers stepping forward in our Student ministry. We already have a lot of volunteers serving faithfully.  Now, our number of volunteers is growing. That’s what we want. We want our members to minister.  We have great days ahead of us!

I’m Cold

I like cold weather, but I don’t function well in it. I shake a lot. My south Georgia blood can’t take really cold weather. My resting heart rate is usually between 48-52 bpm. I think that might have something to do with it. The Weather Channel indicates that warmer weather is on the way. However, it will probably take me several days to thaw out and by the time I do, we will probably have another cold front. I guess I will have to keep moving and dress in layers.

Sunday Recap

  • Finally, I felt like our new sound system was completely what it should be.
  • Zach Purser played the drums today for the first time at Summit. He’s a Georgia Tech student, but I think he might work out anyway.
  • Great work from our volunteers. Adam, Jake, Tommy and Kyle stepped up big time setting up the stage and sound system.
  • Good attendance in Kidz Rock.
  • The message today was on apathy. It’s amazing how many Christians struggle with spiritual apathy. Hopefully today will make a difference.
  • Starting February 1, we will start our worship service at 10:00. The extra 15 minutes will serve us well with set up.

Sunday Rewind

  • Sunday’s message was on depression. Afterwards, a couple of people wanted to know when the message was going to be online. Unfortunately, we had a mishap with our CD recorder and the message was lost.
  • We continue to break in our new sound system. We have a few glitches, but overall the sound was good. David and Austin are a tremendous help with the new system.
  • We had a good attendace.
  • We had eleven people join Summit after the Summit Life Membership Class. A special thanks to Tommy and Serena King for taking care of lunch.
  • The Youth had a fellowship at our house last night. I’m amazed at how teenagers can multi-task and still hear everything that is being said. Amazing! We have some pretty neat stuff coming up for the youth. Stay tuned!

Depression

This Sunday I will begin a four part series on damaging emotions. First up will be depression. I know a lot of people struggle on and off with depression. Part of the reason is that we are humans living in an imperfect world. What can we do about depression? Is it a winnable battle? I think it is. How do we do it? Well, we’ll find out Sunday.

Sunday Recall

  • We broke in a new sound system yesterday. I thought the sound was right on. We had only one mishap, but other than that everything in the sound department went extremely well.
  • We had quite a few first time visitors. It was great to meet some new faces.
  • Philip and the band sounded terrific. Also, I felt people were really connecting during our worship service.
  • I gave perhaps the most challenging message I have ever delivered as a pastor. Our emphasis for 2009, is Grow-Go-Give. The message was well received. I can’t wait to see what happens this year.
  • Everyone seems to be ready to have a break out year in 2009.
  • God is good in the good times and in the bad.
